Crime at Dubai International Airport

Two Indian nationals have just been charged with premeditated murder for slitting the throat of a fellow Indian while inside his car parked at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 2.

The accused, two indian men aged 31 and 23, waited two hours for their victim to finish his work on November 13th in 2008. They followed him to his car in the airport parking lot and one man jumped into the passenger seat where he restrained the victim while the other assailant sat behind him, pulling his head back by the hair and cutting his throat.

Prosecution records indicated that the murder had been committed over money that was allegedly owed by the victim to the assailants. It was reported that they had been following the victim for two months before they finally murdered him.

The case will next appear before the Dubai Criminal Court on August 24th.

It has been proposed that a specialist prosecution office is established at the airport to handle the increase in criminal activity. There were a total of 3,234 reported cases, between January 1st and June 30th 2007, and this figure increased to 3,452 during the same period in 2008.

It is expected that the specialist airport prosecution will improve the speed of legal processes resulting from crimes detected at the airport. The new service is expected to improve litigation services and reduce workload. Most drug trafficking cases involved people swallowing narcontics concealed in capsules.

Increased vigilance in cracking down on narcotics trafficking have led to a sharp drop in drug cases at the airport.Reports have indicated that the number of narcotics related cases has fallen by 30% in the first half of 2009. Most (95%) or cases were for trafficking in small amounts of narcotics brought into the country for personal use.
